Graduate Program Specialist, SOU
Joanna Steinman attended the University of Colorado in Boulder and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1976. She was awarded a Paralegal Certificate from the Institute for Paralegal Training in Philadelphia in 1977. After moving to San Francisco, she worked in various fields, including advertising, university administration, political consulting, and public interest advocacy.
She relocated to Southern Oregon in 1990 and spent two years as a House Manager at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival during the theatre season and a substitute teacher during the school year. In 1992, she was hired by Southern Oregon State College (now Southern Oregon University) as Box Office and Office Manager. She transferred to the English and Writing Department in 2000 and subsequently held the position of Division Assistant in the Division of Humanities and Culture until 2015. She is currently the Graduate Program Specialist in the Provost’s Office.
During her twenty-six years at SOU, Joanna has served on multiple campus committees, including the President’s Academic Task Force, the Academic Services Appeals Committee, the campus Budget Committee and numerous search committees for staff, faculty, and administrators. She has mentored newly-hired Office Coordinators and has been a pilot user for several new software systems.
Joanna was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. She is married to Brian “Rosie” Rosenthal, a doctor of acupuncture, who practices in Medford, Oregon.
